Our Vision For Legacy Small Groups Church

2010 Schedule of Events

Co-Leader Signups

Sunday May 23 & Sunday May 30

No one leads alone. You’re in as Co-Leaders together. We need 100 Co-Leaders for 50 groups. Stay with your current leadership partners or join with new Co-Leaders to start different groups.

Co-Leaders Presented to Congregation

Sunday June 13

Everybody gets a list of the 50+(!) Small Groups and their Co-Leaders. Every Legacy member is urged to prayerfully consider which SGC they will join. Co-Leaders are encouraged to ask God to fill their groups in ways that will create self-giving communities of Christian love and service.

Small Groups Church Signups

Sunday June 20 & Sunday June 27

Signups begin in the concourse immediately following the June 20 morning assembly. Groups will be limited to twelve total adults.

Co-Leader Renewal

7:00pm Wednesday June 23 & 7:00pm Tuesday June 29

One-hour refresher for all current Co-Leaders. If you’ve co-led a Small Group before, you’re required to attend only one of these two sessions. An open forum for helpful hints, suggestions, friendly reminders, and Q & A.

Co-Leader Training

7:00pm Tuesday June 22

Two-hour session for all first-time Co-Leaders. An overview of the vision and mission of Legacy Small Groups Church. How to organize your group, how to run a meeting, how to share responsibilities, how to multiply, how to get grape juice stains out of the carpet.

Co-Leaders / Elders Kickoff Breakfast

8:30am Saturday June 26

Inspiration, encouragement, blessings, songbooks, last-second-details, and Chik-Fil-A

First Day of Legacy Small Groups Church

Sunday July 4, 2010

A church-wide Fourth of July picnic (somewhere) with fireworks (somehow). If you have any ideas, get them quickly to Howard Stein or Allan Stanglin. The upcoming cycle of Legacy Small Groups Church runs July 4, 2010 to June 26, 2011.

We, the shepherds of the Legacy Church of Christ, see the mission from our Lord as three-fold: to APPLY the Word to our individual and church family lives, to CONNECT with each other as a family of God, and to EVANGELIZE our community for Jesus. To better answer that clear call from Holy Scripture, we believe this church should meet weekly in small groups, house-to-house, "to be kind to each other and to everyone else."

Meeting together more frequently is paramount as we "consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds." We believe these weekly Small Groups meetings will serve to better encourage and support the church model we see in the "one another" passages in the Bible: "Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves...share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality" (Rom. 12:9-13). "Accept one another" (Rom. 15:7). "Serve one another in love" (Gal. 5:13). "Be kind and compassionate to one another" (Eph. 4:32). "Teach and admonish one another" (Col. 3:16).

Our Plan For Legacy Small Groups Church

Small Groups will meet weekly in each other's homes to spend time together in the Word, to share the fellowship of a common meal, and to minister to one another in a more intimate and familiar setting. Small Groups will reach out to friends in the community and introduce them to Jesus through his people. And Small Groups will frequently multiply to include newcomers to Legacy in an ever-widening circle of Christian friends.

Small Groups Evangelism

The Biblical model of "fishers of men" is not our familiar image of a single person with a fishing pole. First century fishermen worked together as a group, with large nets, helping each other with the fishing process.
Small Groups provide a non-threatening setting in which people who are not yet believers can be introduced to the Good News of salvation in Jesus. It is the Christ himself who tells us that our love for each other, in visible and practical ways, is our best evangelistic tool (John 13:34-35). Our friends will "hear the music and ask for the words."

The Details

Small Groups will meet every Sunday evening. The only exception will be fifth Sundays when the entire congregation will assemble at the building for a time of worship and a fellowship meal.

Small Groups will meet for 12 months followed by a three month "off period" for congregational meetings at the building.

New Small Groups sign-ups and co-leader training will be held every 15 months.

Small Groups are led by two co-leaders. No one leads alone.

Small Groups will consist of six to 14 adult members and their families.

Each Small Group will have the flexibility to decide where to meet and what to eat. And each group is encouraged to share responsibilities among the members, using their individual talents for the good of the group.
